WOMEN'S SAFETY : AN ISSUE UNSOLVED

Women's safety. The word itself is just a dream or the biggest nightmare in a country like India which tops the list for the "WORLD'S MOST UNSAFE PLACE FOR WOMEN". This is one issue which does not need much explanations. If we check the reports of India, in 2015, there were over 34600 rape cases and yet, as we can see, rape conviction rates continue to remain low. Since the laws were strengthened, there has been a 39 per cent increase in rape complaints reported to the police, according to Human Rights Watch, which implies that the new laws have had some positive effect.  Women – both adults and minors – are getting raped and reports are coming in from all quarters of the country. Yet, there has not been any significant improvement regarding women’s security and safety. Women still have to feel scared to wander the streets at night, away from their homes, while rapists still roam free. India ranked as the most dangerous on three issues – the risks women face from sexual violence and harassment, from cultural and traditional practices, and from human trafficking including forced labor, sex slavery and domestic servitude. More than five years after the rape and murder of a student on a bus in Delhi that sparked national outrage, government pledges to tackle the issue. But, the cases of rapes are increasing and women are getting insecure day by day.

One thing is very uncommon in our Indian audience - humanity. Even if in the day broad light when someone or some people see anyone harassing the women in public, they either stand still and enjoy the show or take out their mobile phones to shoot the entire humilation to post in the social media stating "Conditions of Women in our country now a days". And the whole social media will start abusing the government and the country. But the real fact is the one who is shooting could have helped her by saving from the goons rather he wanted some fame and stardom. Actually, the government and  the country is not at all responsible for this major social issue that we are facing but it's the people who commit it and the ones who let them commit i.e. the passer bys or the scene viewer. It's actually the mentality of the people that they want fun from the women without thinkng over the conseuqences. According to a report by child rights NGO CRY, sexual offence is committed against a child in India every 15 minutes and there has been an increase of more than 500 per cent over the past 10 years in crime against minors.

NCRB data rape of women in India India has become a society where the national narrative conditions people to think that there are no consequences of rape, and where women command little cultural respect, the number of crimes against women is not shocking or surprising at all. Women have to reconcile with the reality: your safety is in your hands, don’t step out at night, don’t wear short clothes, don’t go out unescorted or simply, just stay at home – or you are on your own. But why only girls have to bear all the consequences? Are boys the special limited editions? Why don't they have to face not much restrictions? Why they are not responsible for the rapes, sexual violence and other offensive activities against girl? By seeing the current scenario, we can say that the female tourists from abroad would stop visiting India which can afect the tourism sector and the indian economy.
This was the storytale of India. If we take account of the whole world, then after India we can find the following countries in the list of unsafe countries for women according to some reports :

AFGHANISTAN
SYRIA
SOMALIA
SAUDI ARABIA
PAKISTAN
DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
YEMEN
NIGERIA
UNITED STATES

It's well known that Islamic countries are among the dangerous dungeon for women in the world, as they have much more restrictions for women in the Quran and their religious beliefs. But shockingly USA ranks 10th in this list. The surprise addition of the United States to the top 10 on the list was a result of the #MeToo and Time’s Up campaigns, which demanded justice and responsibility from men as a massive number of women are forward with their experiences with sexual harassment or violence. After this polls people came to know about the real power of a superpower.
Even organizations like UN is fighting for the rights of women by constituting a council UN WOMEN where rights of women are claimed by fighting against all the odds. Today, being women is the toughest thing in this planet and yet they have no respect from the other gender, rather being used , harassed or tortured like slaves. A simple request to all of you my brothers let's not light a candle when a girl is raped or sexually harassed, this time you have to fight for it, from it and to it. Because who knows the next victim is may be from your house.
